Stupid Marketing / Management?

November 21st, 2008 Posted in Personal | No Comments »

Today I was reading up on the google mobile and the google earth apps for iphone… they seems kinda cool, so I thought I will search it on the Hong Kong Apple App Store… to my surprise, it is not there… after doing some quick search on the web, I realize, google is country profiling their apps. Making they apps only available in certain countries (namely North America and Europe) and not others. I rackon this is the stupidiest move that google could have done. Why will you want to alienate your users from the rest of the world? Especially since these apps are universal apps, it is not something country specific. So from a marketing perspective, it just piss people off. There is a lot of piss off people on many different forum with regards to this country profiling on the apple apps store by different companies. I hope that apple and google and any other company who sells on apple apps store that do country profiling, to correct their mistake. It is not a very good to make a certain users from a different part of the world to feel they don’t deserve the same software. This is just plain stupid marketing and management period.

Zaia by Cirque du Soleil

August 29th, 2008 Posted in Personal | No Comments »

I have just watch the New Cirque du Soleil show at the Venetian Macau. It is another good Cirque du Soleil performance, but I will probably not rate is as the best Cirque show that I have seen. The concept of the show is about the dream of a young girl who journeys into space on a strange, yet familiar voyage of self-discovery… but I don’t feel I get that connections with the girl as she only appears in a few scenes here and there… However I do feel that I am going throught a journey in space and different parts of the planet earth. It is overall still an awesome Cirque show with very good chorographied performance. There’s a few minor muck up here and there (probably due to the fact that this is a new show), but the performer keep the show going and the audience barely noticed the fault. Overall, I will recommend it to everyone who are visiting Hong Kong or Macau to go check out the show.

Module 4 Simulator

August 1st, 2008 Posted in Personal | No Comments »

I had a lot of fun at my M4 simulator tonight… even though my landing was a little bit rusty (ie: I landed harder than normal), it was still great fun… how often do you get to practice EGPWS??? Especially when you are doing an expediated descent (ie: descending at high speed, with full speed brake)… and all of a sudden getting a “Terrain Terrain, Pull Up Pull Up” warning (on purpose)… and pull yourself out with full backstick… and now with all the momentum… you convert that to vertical speed… and get 7500ft/min climb… we are talking about an A340-300 here… with it’s hair dryer engine here… hahaha… it was awesome!!! You will never get that in normal ops… you will be luck if you get 1000 to 1500ft/min… hahaha… So I had fun… the only downside is that I lost my Montblanc Pen :(  I donno where did I drop it… I can’t find it anywhere :_( Oh well… about time to go get a new one!!! :OP

iphone 3G

July 31st, 2008 Posted in Personal, Technology | No Comments »

Ok… I know I am a gadget geek… I finally got my hands on a black iphone 3G about a week ago. I need to pull some buddy buddy card with some friends in order to get one. So far I am very happy with it. It feels lighter and slimmer on the hand (even though it is actually bigger, but it is lighter). I love the apps store as I have mention with the 2.0 firmware. I love the GPS as well, although, the accuracy in the city are not that that great. It often put me on the adjucent street in HKG instead. Also, I am still waiting for a proper Map programs so that I don’t have to use goole maps, which requires internet connects all the time. One big complain though, the piano black casing on the back get scratches very very very easily. I mean very easily, after one day, I’ve got tons of min scratches on it already. Luckily, they are not really that noticable. Besides all of this, I am a satisfied customer.

Iphone Firmware 2.0 & MobileMe

July 20th, 2008 Posted in Personal, Technology | No Comments »

Ok… so I finally got Iphone Firmware 2.0 on my 1st Gen Iphone… so far everything is great… I love the chinese language input… it got very good hand writting reconigtion and it is very quick as well, I love it. One down side about firmware 2.0 is the exchange support are not very good. I try setting it up, but it never sync properly. There’s a lot of server side issues and also the phone keep asking for passcode everytime you log-in and also it keeps telling me that you have entered the wrong password, when I know I didn’t… I eventually gave up… I sign up for a trail of MobileMe… transfer my wowpeter email to my mobile me account… have Mobile Me sync all the contacts, calander and photos… it works great! Everything just works… everything get pushed from the phone to MobileMe instantaneously… Although, the push from computer to MobileMe is a little bit slow… it takes up to an hour sometimes… I end up just clicking the sync now button to get it going right away. I heard that apple is going to fix that issues, so I am sure it will be great. Right now, I just enjoy my push email. With Firmware 2.0, I have to say Iphone can now beat any WinMobile phone anytime. It is great. Also, the apps store are pretty good… probably not as good as installer, but as you know installer is not working just yet on Firmware 2.0 with the Pawnage crack… I brought about USD50 worth of programs already, mainly games… and they are high quality games… like bomberman and some racing game and this puzzle game… it is awesome… there’s also a lot of free software as well. So far, i am pretty satisfied, although there is some draw back. The phone seems to respond slower than previous generations, the contacts and sms page takes 2 to 3 secs to load before you can scroll around for contacts and sms. I hope Apple will fix this on the next update. I am sure they will as well. Finally, Iphone 3G… I still couldn’t get one in HK… they are still out of stock… I am now trying to get one through back channel from all the people that I know… so we will see what happen. Once I got one, i will let everyone know how good it is! In the mean time, I am going to play around with my iphone with firmware 2.0!!! :O)

Thunderstorm Watching!

July 14th, 2008 Posted in Personal | No Comments »

Tonight… there’s this crazy Thunderstorm in HK… Trevor, Brian VL, Chris D. and Me all went out for a drive to go Thunderstorm / Lighting Watching… It was awesome… We park at this remote parking lot at the West Kowloon development area… It was an awesome scene. Lighting hitting IFC2, striking buildings on the HK and Kowloon side. The closest one stike just behind my car. Brian VL being a super good photographer, managed to catch a shot (See his photo below). It was so cool… although at that moment (Trevor and Me was in my SLK), it kinda freaks Trevor and Me out a little bit. hahaha… we were like… Holy Shit man… so close… hahaha… but here is the awesome photo! Enjoy! :)

HK Fashion Week… Lawyers Season… Random Things in Life…

July 11th, 2008 Posted in Personal | No Comments »

This week I have been helping my mother at the Hong Kong Fashion Week… it is the typical fashion week stuff, with customers (buyer) and manufactures (seller) both trying to negotiate the best price that it is available… at the current state of the economy, I think things are tipping in favor on the buyer side of the equation… I think most manufacture got it pretty good for the past few years and now with reduce demand, the buyer can play one seller to another. That’s the way in life. What can you do about it right?

Is it lawyer season in HK or something? So many lawyer are visiting lately… kinda interesting… one of them got me pretty excited as well… hahaha… I really need to learn how to calm down and just chill sometimes… I think I sometimes get so excited that I scare people off!!! :O)

Random things in life… I have a craving for the new iphone 3G, but I can’t get one because they don’t have any stock… so stupid… Also I am hoping that they can put out the next Star Trek movie sooner rather than later… I can’t wait until 2009… and I think JJ.ABRAMS will be able to bring a new perspective on the series… ahhhh… can’t wait… ahhhh…

Good for you Southwest!

June 4th, 2008 Posted in Aviation, Business | 1 Comment »

May I direct you guys to the Southwest site at the moment… they are advertising the fact that they are not charging people any extra fees… Good for them, that’s the way it should be. It is rediculous that passenger will have to pay crazy fees for check-in bags, snacks, fuel surcharges, etc… if an airline can not cover their cost with their cost of the ticket, they should change the price of the ticket period. If due to government regulations, that makes it hard to change the price of the ticket, the government should change their law. In todays competitive market, it is not acceptable to have government regulated fares. Good good for Southwest!

World Of Warcraft

April 22nd, 2008 Posted in Personal | No Comments »

I can not believe that I actually brought this game and now I am completely addicted to it. This is all thanks to Jon and Trevor… also my brother Jacky and Vicky, who convince me to purchase the game in the first place… I will have to say though, the game is very well thought out. Much better than the 1st generation online game, Ultima Online… the graphics are nicer, the quest are better, the professional class is much better. Overall, I am a very satisfied customer. I got 3 character now, one level 15, two level 12. This is after playing for 3 days. I intend to concentrate on 1 or maybe 2 characters for now. We will see how it goes. For those who has never play WoW, it is worth checking it out. Sooooo much fun….
